day 2

It's the second day of grad school today and I am mentally preparing myself for lack of sleep and time over the next few months. I am of course excited for ideas and new projects but right now there's a lot to take in.

I thought I'd share some more photos from the roll of slide film I shot for From Orchards, Fields and Gardens book. We took a mini road trip up north from Los Angeles and visited some farms. The agricultural landscape all along California sort of fascinates me. We found a beautiful orange orchard tucked in the hills near the coast and a drive up along narrow roads. The orchard was 'guarded' by a huge Pyrenian Mountain Dog (I think?) who startled me at first by sneaking up right behind me. He turned out to be so sweet and was impossible to photograph alone because he wanted to be petted constantly and would keep coming up close to us. The photos above are from pitstops all along the drive. The horses made me so happy!
We took this mini road trip just a week before we flew east. I think it was a nice goodbye to beautiful California.

The mailman dropped off Kerstin's book today and it's stunning! I can't wait to read it but for now I am swooning over the art and photos. I feel so honored to have my photo included amongst such beautiful work. The first photo with the orange orchard is mine and the rest are by Anna Emilia Laitinen, Terese Wallbäck, Shari Altman and Gwen Shlichta.
I couldn't think of a better way to start off my birthday (which is tomorrow by the way!). Thank you Kerstin!
Maybe next week, I'll share some more photos from the roll of film which I shot during the little road trip where I took that photo.
(The book can be purchased here.)

rainy night + affogato at a late night dessert place in little italy.
Kerstin posted a little peek into one of the proof pages from the book and it's the most beautiful photo from Abby and I love the story that she remembered. I am so excited to see the book!

A while ago I contributed a few photos to a book that Kerstin was working on. She curated a beautiful idea into a book with work from various artists and writers and it can be pre-ordered here. I am so looking forward to seeing it and everyone's contributions!
(ps. flowers from another day)

I wish I had taken more photos at Sarah's party before it got too dark for photos. The place looked so so stunning...and the flowers, beautiful flowers!!

The weather was glorious over the weekend! We spent some of it at the Union Square Farmer's Market, snacking and marveling at how joyous everything looked and felt.
